They had a lot to say…
Voters in Harvard Square were asked by Fox News about their rating of President Biden’s performance in light of the record-high inflation rates.
The perspectives of the voters varied with many believing Biden is doing the most he can given the circumstances he has been handed, while others find that his policies are affecting the economy.
“I think a lot of things that Biden did … contributed to the inflation that had led to a lot of problems today,” a Harvard student, Charles, said after giving Biden a D. He also talked about the U.S.’ withdrawal from Afghanistan as “somewhat bothersome.”
Nick, who rated Biden with an A said, “A lot of presidential ratings are probably relative to the previous guy. It’s still early, I think. Give him time.”
Inflation is still close to a 40-year high, even though there was slight ease to 8.3% in April according to the Department of Labor’s reports.
In part, Charles said that the American Rescue Plan along with the decision to stop the Keystone XL Pipeline have been big contributing factors to the inflation. The invasion of Ukraine from Russia was also singled out as an important factor.
Cassandra, a woman from Massachusetts said “I don’t think he’s done a whole lot.” This is why she gave him a C after adding, “But it’s a really tough job.”
“He’s probably doing his best,” Cassandra continued. “I’m more proud of [Sen.] Elizabeth Warren.”
Notably, she said that Warren’s speech after the leaked Supreme Court Draft opinion had really impressed her.
“There’s decisions he’s making that I personally disagree with,” Isaiah said and gave Biden a D.
“The fact that Roe v. Wade is being overturned potentially during his run is kind of disheartening,” he added. “I feel like he could do more to prevent that.”
